Biography
John Marsh (made Sheriff of Staffordshire 1770) lived at Lloyd Hall, Penn, Wombourne, the estate to the north of Wodehouse. One of Sir Samuel’s workers, Daniel Rogers (brother of John) has been seconded to be the High Sheriff’s trumpeter. The trumpet used is almost certainly by John Hofmaster, currently on loan to Musical Instruments Museums Edinburgh University. In the second letter, written after the event, Sir Samuel explains how the trumpet was to be held with all the extra tassels, banners, etc
